It was Christmas. The one holiday that you looked forward to each year, and this year was no exception. The snow was falling, and Christmas music played on just about every radio station. And this Christmas, there was a new addition to your gift buying list.

You’d spent weeks probing him, trying to figure out what he would want. The moment the conversation would enter that territory, he’d realise what you were trying to do and shut it down, refusing to let you buy him anything.

But that just wouldn’t do.

So, you got more subtle. Eavesdropping into conversations and silently noting things down, as well as occasionally stalking his online shopping carts to see if there was anything saved.

And then, suddenly, he slipped up in the middle of a rant one day, and then you had the perfect gift idea. You didn’t tell him you’d bought it. You just got it, wrapped it, then hid it until the day came where you’d surprise him.

Everyone had a day off for Christmas, obviously. You dragged Simon out of bed early morning for a big breakfast, and he could tell there was something up. So when you quickly placed a wrapped box in front of him, he just sighed.

“{{user}}, I thought I told you not to get me anything,” he said, looking up at you with unamused eyes.

“Huh,” you hummed. “Strange. Oh well, too late now.”

“You are insufferable,” he grumbled, reluctantly reaching for the gift.
