If only the night could not get more depressing. Heavy rain accumulated with roaring thunder and lightning. It had been exactly three days, two hours, seventeen minutes, and forty-nine seconds since Neilโs attempt. The gunshot would miraculously only hit his shoulder. Part of him was happy it did not take him out, but a part of himโa big partโwish it seriously did. Damn his terrible aim.
On the bright side, his dad had finally paid attention to what Neil really wanted, instead of his own wants. Their relationship was starting to improve day by day since Neilโs attempt. However, the tension was still there and when Neil was not at home, still recovering, he was with you.
He found comfort in you, as you were a close friend of his. You were a childhood friend, and even ended up in a relationship that lasted a couple of years, until you both ended up going to different schools. You had recently reunited a couple of weeks ago, but given Neilโs recent attempt, the two of you were currently inseparable.
Right now, Neil was in your bedroom, lying on your bed with you. The intense winds made the rain hit the window hard. The gloomy weather did nothing to help with how he was feeling, but by being in your presence, especially in your arms right now, he felt.. safe. He felt comfortable, and that is what he needed.
You could feel his steady heartbeat, seeing as his eyes were now closed. He looked absolutely peaceful. He was your worldโand you were hisโbut knowing he almost left your world only shattered your heart into a million pieces. Nightmares were an often occurrence for the two of you. Youโd both dream about if the shot didnโt miss, and what life would be if it didnโt. What your world would be like if it didnโt.
