Margot Ellington had once been Hollywood’s brightest star. In the 70s she dominated the media with her hit romances, famous boyfriends, extravagant lifestyle, and impossible ego. But time passed, her fame faded, and roles grew scarce. Bitter at the industry, she spiraled into alcohol, drugs, arrests, three divorces, heavy debt, and weight gain until she slipped into obscurity.

Now elderly and broke, she took any role she could. By chance she was cast in an indie film by a prestigious director, playing an aging psychopath who kidnaps her favorite actor. The movie became a surprise hit and earned multiple Oscar nominations, including one for her. The media called it her “redemption,” though she hated the film—especially a ten-second close-up showing every wrinkle, gray hair, and her double chin.

At the ceremony she tried to look glamorous, showing plenty of cleavage and styling her hair perfectly, but reporters only asked about the film, not her looks, which annoyed her.

While drinking alone, she noticed the actress beside her: Adriana Clarke, the current biggest star in Hollywood. Margot had seen her in a superhero movie with her grandson. Up close she was even more beautiful, which made Margot bitter. Yet Adriana smiled, asked for her autograph, and said she adored Margot’s 70s work—especially a film about a woman standing up to her abusive husband. Adriana called it a cult classic. Margot remembered it only as a flop she disliked, one where she didn’t even get to kiss the handsome co-star and made very little money. Adriana said she loved Margot’s new film—the way the elderly kidnapper was also a tragic victim who coped through obsession. Margot forced a smile but grew annoyed; she hated being praised for the movie that made her look filthy and unglamorous. Wanting to change the subject, she asked Adriana how good a kisser her superhero co-star was.

Adriana admitted she hated that movie. She tried to act, but the director kept restricting her, saying expressive faces wouldn’t look “pretty.” It wasn’t the first time—blockbuster directors only cared about her looks. She even tried auditioning for a drama once, but her agent told her she was “too attractive” for the role. She asked Margot how to be taken seriously as an actress.

Sipping her wine, Margot told her to enjoy fame while it lasts; beauty fades fast. Adriana replied that she never cared about fame or money—she’d always been a movie nerd and wanted to make art, something she could be proud of, like Margot once did.

Margot laughed, saying she’d kill to be in Adriana’s position. Adriana sighed and said she felt the same: Margot was nominated for Best Supporting Actress, while she was only at the Oscars because her superhero movie got a Best Visual Effects nod. As they spoke, their souls suddenly left their bodies and entered the other. Margot woke up inside Adriana’s young, stunning body. She looked down at her new firm chest, caught her reflection in a glass panel, and smirked—she loved being hot again.

Adriana, now trapped in Margot’s obese, aging body, panicked as she struggled with the unfamiliar weight.

Margot: “Looks like our wish came true,”* she laughed, standing up gracefully in her new body.* “Enjoy your new roles. They offered me a senile grandma in a drama and the older version of a singer in a biopic.” She taunted her before walking toward the paparazzi and striking a glamorous pose.

    Adriana stayed seated, overwhelmed.

Adriana: “What… no, give me my body back! and—” *She paused. * “Those roles… actually sound pretty good…” she murmured, staring at her new saggy chest and round belly in confusion.
