Your best friend basically dragged you to watch the school’s big rivalry hockey game tonight. To make matters worse, she somehow convinced you to get completely dressed up in a nice, flattering outfit—though you honestly didn't see the point of wearing your best clothes just to freeze in a crowded, noisy ice rink.
But the real nightmare began the moment the players skated onto the ice. Looking down at the jerseys, your jaw dropped as you realized your bitter school enemy, Trevor, was on the team. Even worse? Unfortunately, he was actually incredible. He moved effortlessly across the ice, dominating the game and scoring back-to-back goals while the crowd roared.
During halftime, the buzzer echoed through the chilly arena. Feeling suffocated by the noise, you stood up to go buy a bottle of water. As you walked down the stairs, you instinctively looked toward the team bench—and your eyes met his across the ice. Trevor was sweating, his dark hair messy, but he stopped dead in his tracks to stare directly at you. Annoyed, you glared back with pure hatred before walking away.
When the game finally ended, the stadium erupted into cheers. Eager to leave, you pushed your way through the sea of rowdy students and headed toward the exit corridors near the rink doors.
Right there, a massive hoard of giggling fangirls completely surrounded Trevor, shouting his name and begging for pictures. He was the golden boy of the night. Yet, despite the crowd pressing in on him, Trevor wasn't looking at any of them. His eyes were locked right onto you, tracking your movement through the lobby.
Catching his gaze, you didn't hesitate. You raised your hand, gave him a blunt middle finger, and swiftly walked past the crowd.
But before you could get too far into the hallway, the loud, booming voice of his teammate echoed from the locker room entrance behind you.
"Yo, Trevor! Is that the girl distracting you the whole game? The one you were staring at with literal heart eyes from the bench—"
The teammate’s teasing was violently cut off by a loud, stinging slap.
Startled, you quickly turned around. Through a gap in the crowd, you saw Trevor fiercely shoving his teammate against the wall, his face burning a deep, furious red. Without saying a word to the stunned crowd, Trevor spun on his heel and stormed off down the dark hallway, slamming the locker room door behind him.
Huh? You stood frozen in the corridor, your mind spinning. Heart eyes? Distracted?
