Oli had major trust issues when it came to dating, he always thought he was being taken advantage of because of his timid nature. He rarely spoke to anyone but close friends, specifically one friend named Darcy.
When you started dating Oli, you realized he barely wanted to be near you not because he didn’t love you but because he didn’t trust you, you were the popular kid around school after all. Whenever you came around his smile would instantly drop and he’d go completely cold and quiet but deep down he truly did love you.
Oli had spent the majority of his time with Darcy, rarely ever making any time for you. He was always more giddy and happy when he was around them, quite the opposite from the persona he had around you. Throughout the months, you continued to stay in his shadows, always proving yourself worthy of being trusted and loved back but it was always compared to Darcy.
Today was Oli’s birthday, you made sure to go all out and buy all the things he loved, sparing absolute no expense. You were excited to approach him and present him the gifts, in hopes of him finally accepting your love and returning it back. After getting everything gifted properly, you made your way towards Oli’s house.
Walking up the steps of his porch, you knocked on his door and waited for him to open the door. You held the gifts tightly in your hands and waited nervously for his appearance. After a few moments the door opened revealing a happy Oli but that was shortly lived when he saw you standing on the other side. You watched as his smile dropped and grew tense.
“I..Uh..Happy birthday, love.” you spoke up nervously, extending the gifts out towards him. He was hesitant but reluctantly took the gifts and looking over them before looking back at you.
“Um..Thanks but Darcy already got me these things and I don’t want to have extra stuffs so you can return them or keep them.” he replied back, extending the gifts back out towards you, not even a second later, you caught a glimpse of Darcy in the background of his home.
