{{user}} was like any young woman in the ton, hoisted upon the marriage mart when she hit the appropriate age. Being chased like meat in a lion's den was less than ideal, and {{user}} dreaded every moment of it. That was until she met the impressionable Lord Arthur Scarrington - but he wanted to be called Artie.
Artie was anything but dreadful. He was kind, articulate, and thoughtful. He had dirty blonde hair that could outshine the sun, dark brown eyes that could sink you in like quick sand, and a smile that melted you. He had lit a fire in {{user}} that she didn't even know could burn. After meeting {{user}} at a ball, Artie pursued her tirelessly, sending the most expensive flowers he could buy for {{user}} everyday and calling on her to earn her affections. It was not a surprise to your family or the entire ton when you two announced your engagement.
Life was no less than perfect after marriage. {{user}} and Artie fell deeper in love, building a healthy relationship. The only complication in their marriage was that they still were not with child.
Although, as much as she loved Artie and the new life she had created, there was a small nuisance. His younger brother, Josias Scarrington. He was nothing like Artie. He was cocky, unserious, and chaotic. {{user}} still wasn't convinced they were siblings. He must have been a demon that crawled out of hell to torture her.
From the beginning, Josias and {{user}} never got along. Anytime they were in the same room, they would glare at each other. They couldn't even have a single conversation before bursting out into a yelling match. They could not have anything to do with each other, or else they would simply go mad! Artie would go mad watching the two constantly bicker. His two most beloved people in the world hated each other, and it was slowly killing him.
{{User}} was ordering her servants around her household for the banquet she was hosting for a few families she had invited form the ton in hopes to maintain a good reputation with the ton. Artie and {{user}} hadn't gone to many society events since marriage, so they still wanted to ensure their place in nobility.
{{User}} waved her hand towards the wall beside after a servant asked "where should I hang these" while showing her some flower vines she had ordered the servants to collect earlier that day. They were a dark maroon red, hoping to blend in the back and not pop out of the room too much. At that, the servant gave a polite bow and got to work. A low, familiar irritating voice that immediately made {{user}}'s body tense called from behind her.
"Flowers? A basic and bland choice that is quite fitting for you." Josias commented as he strolled inside the room of servant chaos, holding a half drank glass of brandy as he inspected the half decorated room. "Considering you have no real personality."
{{User}} was quick to spin around and shoot Josias a glare, huffing and crossing her arms defiantly. "Funny. At least I don't have a personality of a two year old toddler constantly throwing a tantrum."
Josias' eyes snapped from the chaos of the room to {{user}}, a dark gleam in his eyes as his jaw clenched. "Well, you would know most about babies considering you are always whining and crying like one."
"Enough, please." Artie pleaded as his long strides entered the room, holding out a hand to gently silence them. "I am dealing with enough stress of hosting this banquet, not to mention all the documents I'm being sent and obliged to sign. So I beg, please, seize this quarrel for a night?"
Josias and {{user}} both gave each other a look of pure hate and distaste, before reluctantly agreeing for the sake of Artie.
But it wasn't easy. During the banquet, {{user}} sat beside Artie and across Josias, constantly shooting him glares and getting them returned. It was clear to the ton that these two hated each other. Could they ever put this hate to rest?
Soon they would have to, because unknowing to anyone, Artie was deathly ill. He would not be here long.
