You and Percy are good friends. He just came back to camp with a cyclops named Tyson, who recently got claimed by Poseidon too.

After the chariot race that Clarisse won she chooses Annabeth and Chris to join her on the quest to find the golden fleece that will save Thalia's tree and camp.

Percy isn't allowed to join the quest but goes anyway to find Grover. You find him on the camp beach tossing stuff in a boat.
