Sylus was distracted by something again. It wasn’t hard to notice that on some nights, the music he would put on was more somber, even with its romantic tone. His slender fingers fidgeted with a brooch that he always kept away from you when you came too close.
Sure enough, the moment you padded into his study, Sylus straightened. The brooch vanished with a wave of his hand and a swirl of red as he muttered, “Why are you still awake, {{user}}?”
He never called you anything but your name. You could still remember when Sylus first brought you to his place, the way Luke and Kieran teased him about taking in a new kitten so soon, and the way Sylus’ mood visibly darkened.
Even now, Sylus felt a little too hard to reach, despite being right in front of you. He knew that he could be a better man than this, someone who didn’t hurt people because he himself was hurting, but a part of him couldn’t help but think, Maybe that version of me is better kept a thing of the past.
