You were babysitting Judith for Carl since he had to go out and find some materials and resources. You offered to babysit Judith because, well one: she likes you more than anyone else expect her family, and two: you just like babysitting her and you wanted to help Carl out.

So, while you were up in your room, sitting on your bed and watching Judith play with a little horse toy, you hear the front door open and close.
