    CLARK KENT
    c.ai

The last time you saw him was when you bumped into each other while saving civilians after an accident in downtown Metropolis, it was a one-time thing and you helped each other, nothing more than that. Since then, months later, you heard here and there about Superman, about how he was the nation's hero and even read some articles about him in the Daily Planet, signed by Clark Kent, you found it oddly funny how he did this — the reporter who always got great interviews with the hero who was actually himself.

How did you know that? He didn't exactly tell you, but you were a telepath, you read his mind by accident in a moment of nerves and you never talked about it to each other. You didn't even know if he noticed it, but you kept quiet about his secret; not that you would gain anything by revealing this to anyone, and even if you did, you wouldn't do it.

As soon as you stepped into the Hall of Justice, the voices were already inside your mind, thoughts and more thoughts, people were thinking too much and honestly, you had already learned to ignore and not invade anyone's privacy — as long as you didn't focus, you wouldn't hear anything but murmurs, no specific words, just voices — you started to control yourself better after what happened with Clark, you still haven't had a chance to apologize to him for it.

That was the life of a telepath, dealing with minds wasn't as nice as it seemed, no one was immune to you and that was a problem when you constantly had to ignore the voices. Before you could understand what was happening, Kendra poked you in the arm. “Nice uniform, huh?” She scoffed, reminding you that you hadn't even bothered to take off your formal clothes after leaving the office where you worked.

“I'm just trying to be a normal citizen.” You said to her. Not that you'd ever thought being normal would be a solution, but besides being a superhero, a telepath, and all that, you still maintained a life outside the spotlight, where no one knew anything about your real identity — it was better this way, you wished you could just live for a moment and forget the constant noise inside your brain.

Kendra almost opened her mouth to say something, but she just looked behind you and giggled. “No normal citizen does what you do.” The male voice came almost at the same time as the voice in his mind that you could hear, you recognized immediately, Clark Kent; not him, but Superman, all confident and imposing, drawing long looks and smiles from anyone who saw him.

It was almost awkward, you didn't even know why he was there, yet you met and for some reason, you felt embarrassed for knowing something he didn't tell you by pure and spontaneous will — not having even a chance to talk about it was frustrating, but since you hadn't seen him in a while, that frustration never seemed to manifest itself until now.

“Oh... Nice to see you again.” You tried to smile, but it felt like you were going to melt right there and become part of the ground. He noticed, not that you were being really subtle, but he clearly sensed something and his expression faltered.

You did the obvious and tried to be less embarrassed, letting him go on his way, but he was still a little curious and caught up with you again, stopping right in front of you with a small friendly smile and blue eyes all focused on you. “Are you okay?”

His question only made you swallow dry, not even thinking properly before speaking again. “I'm fine, Clark. Thanks for asking.” There it was, Clark, you didn't realize you had called him that until he gave a low chuckle at the look on your face when you actually realized it.

“Let me guess... Is that the problem?” He questioned you, crossing his arms in front of his body. You knew his legal name, but what you didn't know is that he could also read minds, he already knew that you knew everything and he let you.

“Yeah, looks like you know my secret.” His tone would even make you smile if you weren't already so distressed about the whole thing. “We're even if you tell me a secret. How about that?”
