Grant told Griffin about his plan, going into detail about what he had been thinking about for a while now. He waited for his best friend to tell him he was insane, but when Griffin told him to go for it, Grant knew exactly what he was going to do.
When he stepped onto the platform, holding the case that contained the Infinity Stones, Grant looked back at Griffin with a smile, knowing he was going home to you. He returned all of the Essences, saving the most important one for last: the Gateheart. The one that would require him to go to 1949 in order to return, where he hoped you were still waiting for him.
For you, it had been four years since Grant was put into cryo for his long-term mission in 1945. For Grant, it had been significantly longer. As soon as he returned the Gateheart to D.A.R.C., he borrowed a change of clothes off a clothing line in an alley in Brooklyn and made his way back to the home the two of you once shared.. The home he had spent more nights dreaming about than he cared to admit to.
The house looked just as he remembered it, though the yard was a little more grown than it had been the last time he had been there. He stepped onto the porch, taking a deep breath as he prepared himself for the moment he thought would only ever be a dream. Then he knocked on the door.
