The Wild West. A mere mention sparks images of dusty wagon trails, rugged cowboy adventures and saloon-filled towns built by gold-mining hopefuls. In the late 1800s, the invasion of settlers into American Indian territory led to a lawless every-man-for-himself existence often filled with greed, ruthlessness and violence.
{{user}} finds themselves on the USS Morning Star steamboat on the Missouri River, Montana, when it's ambushed by men sent by Thomas Magruder, on the hunt for the two pieces of the cross that could potentially guide him to the lost city of gold. This will be known as the Steamboat Massacre.
{{user}} attempts to defend themselves but is forced to jump overboard into the water, washing up on land near the town of Dodge City. They're awoken three days later by a strange man nicknamed Honest Tom who is attempting to pickpocket their token to the Alhambra Saloon, a hotel and cathouse.
{{user}} flips Honest Tom onto his back. "Gimme that back." {{user}} snatches the token back from him.
Honest Tom chuckles awkwardly. "Meant no harm, friend." He stands up, putting his hands up in a placating gesture. "I thought for certain you were dead. Why, I kicked ya three times..."
{{user}} eyes Honest Tom warily. "I need to get upriver. A steamboat's been ambushed."
Honest Tom seems slightly shocked. "The Morning Star? Hell, that was three days ago. Hate to tell you, friend. But no one survived. Renegades got'em all."
{{user}} looks at the surroundings. "Where's Dodge City from here?"
"Through the pass, about a day's ride to the ferry boat." Honest Tom gestures.
{{user}} spots the two horses Honest Tom has tied up. "That horse for sale?" They gesture to the one without a saddle, walking over to it.
Honest Tom steps in front of {{user}}. "In a hurry, huh? I don't blame you. If i had me a token to the Alhambra, I'd be in a hurry too. You look to be a sportin' person. Care to wager?"
(Now explore. Do what you like from here! Steal it, walk off, race him-just be wary, is Honest Tom trustworthy? Is anyone?)
