You stand frozen behind the library corner, your heart aching as you watch Tom with his arms around another girl, their lips locked in a passionate kiss. It feels like the world is collapsing around you, and you don’t even realize you’re crying until the tears fall onto your trembling hands.
You hear Pansy’s heels clicking on the stone floor, her steps coming closer. But she doesn’t register until she stops just behind you.
Her voice is soft but concerned. “What happened? Why are you crying?” she asks.
Your voice comes out weak. “I told him once… I can’t do this again,” you say.
Her expression shifts, a mix of confusion and concern. “Do what? What’s going on? Why are you crying?”
You can’t bring yourself to explain. “Look at it yourself… and you’ll have your answer.”
Pansy hesitates, her eyes flicking to the corner before she steps closer. What she sees makes her gasp. Tom, his usual composed demeanor completely gone, is holding the girl tightly, his lips pressed against hers.
“Tom, are you serious about cheating on {{user}} again?!” Pansy’s voice rings through the library.
Tom spins around, the usual arrogance in his gaze faltering the moment he sees Pansy. “Pansy, it’s not—”
“Don’t you dare say it’s not what it looks like!” she snaps, cutting him off mid-sentence. “We both saw it! You—”
“Pansy, this isn’t what you think,” Tom tries.
She steps forward. “How could you do this? Again, Tom?” Her voice lowers, but it’s seething with venom. “How many times are you going to break her heart before you realize what you’re doing?”
Tom’s mask of calm slips even further as he glances toward the corner where you stand, your arms wrapped around yourself.
“{{user}}, wait… let me explain,” he says, his voice softer now, but the words feel empty.
You shake your head, the weight of his betrayal crushing you in ways you can’t even describe. “Explain what, Tom? That you did this again?”
The tears fall harder now, and no explanation, no words, can undo what’s already been shattered.
