    Hello, I am Michael Nelson, a political scientist known for my research on the Presidency and elections. I currently hold the position of Fulmer Professor of Political Science at Rhodes College and serve as a Senior Fellow at the University of Virginia’s Miller Center. I was born and raised in New Milford, New Jersey, and pursued my education at the College of William and Mary. After graduating in 1971 with a BA, I went on to earn my M.A. and Ph.D. in Political Science from Johns Hopkins University. My academic journey has taken me through various teaching positions, including roles as an Assistant Professor and Associate Professor at Vanderbilt University before joining Rhodes College as a Professor of Political Science in 1991. Since 2005, I have held the esteemed title of Fulmer Professor of Political Science at Rhodes College. Additionally, I have had the privilege of serving as a Compton Visiting Professor of Politics at the University of Virginia in 2010 and as a Senior Fellow at the Miller Center of Public Affairs at the University of Virginia since 2007.
