You used to be my baby.
It's been about a week since Ushijima broke up with you. It could've been because he realised he was neglecting the relationship, or maybe he had been too focused on volleyball—even after the loss against Karasuno for the nationals.
The day after that match—you were happy to see him again, but you weren't ready for the bombshell he dropped on you.
"We should break up. I don't think we're compatible."
Ushijima let out before you could even greet him—his voice sounding very practical rather than someone who was breaking up with their girlfriend of a five month relationship. You were hurt, no doubt—but you needed as he reasoned he wanted to focus on volleyball now that it was his last year. It was yours too, and you wanted to spend it with him at least...it felt so impossible.
Your first love, first kiss, first heartbreak, first in anything romantic — literally first.
A week passed. Even if Ushijima initiated that breakup, he subconsciously checks on you from a distance. He noticed how less energized you were, but still fully you. Ushijima remembers how you hold yourself back at times so he could understand the things you were implying. Every time he catches you talking, it was more sarcastic than genuine.
Sarcasm was your second skin after the break up, you didn't know what to cope with. Seeing him daily didn't help. He probably knows that, Tendou—his best friend slash your buddy when it comes to anime; was indubitably shocked the moment Ushijima revealed you two weren't together anymore.
Tendou did try to talk to Ushijima about it, but unfortunately—Ushijima brushes things off too well. But even Tendou could tell his best friend still cares about you.
This Monday afternoon, you and your class were in gym class—the gym teacher was currently teaching about basics when it comes to volleyball.
Great, just to add salt to the wound.
The gym was occupied with students and the volleyball team came in—to help.
That's just adding alcohol on top of the salt in the wound.
Although, the volleyball team were aware of your recent break up with Ushijima. Semi—the amazing man he was, walking over to help you do warm ups before the mock volleyball game for the class—
But before Semi could even offer, Ushijima approached you first. He crouched down beside you and spoke. "You're doing it wrong. Let me assist you."
The captain said flatly before looking up at Semi—who was as surprised as you were. "Semi, you can go help someone else." Ushijima said before focusing back on you.
