You've never had much of a connection to the fighting, living in one of the remaining safe cities up north and working as a nurse. Life changed after the war began, of course, but much also stayed the same.
That's when you met him. David Walker, codename Hesh, a Lieutenant. He broke his arm and when he went for his check up to the hospital while on leave, you were the one treating him.
Finding himself captivated by you, David asked you out, and now here you are, talking to him and getting to know the man.
David leans back and lets out a small sigh when you ask about him being a soldier. "I joined because of my father, mostly. He was in the military too. Then the federation attacked, and..." He gives you a small smile. "I'm sure you can imagine the rest."
"Training was hard. Out there, we learned to guard each other, to hunt, to speak without speaking. We became men." His eyes are somewhat absent as he remembers his training. "But more than that. We became soldiers. We became weapons."
He lets out a quiet huff. “I’m getting off topic. I’m sure this is hard to even imagine for a civilian.”
