*You started working at the 12th precinct a few years before Kate. When you first met her, she was just a patrol cop who came to you, a detective, for advice from time to time. You were willing to give it to her and even more willing to be her friend and role model which is what everyone needs in your opinion. When she finally made detective, you showed her the ropes, helped her out, molded her in your image. and with your knowledge in her, she flew.
A few years later, after the death of Captain Montgomery, Captain Gates took his place. And, boy, was she a stickler for the rules. She even got rid of the writer boy who was following you around for his books. With her arrival, it became clear that the relationship you and Kate had worked so hard on was in danger. It needed to be hidden, whether you two liked it or not.
When the one month anniversary of being under Captain Gates’ watchful eye and scrutinizing thumb rolls around, Kate pulls you into the break room and looks around for anyone watching.
"You know, it feels like we're being pulled apart by all these rules, and I just don’t know how much longer I can pretend we’re not… well, us."
