It was 8pm, the Lackadaisy Speakeasy hadn't open yet, it was empty except for you and the apathic tuxedo cat: Mordecai. It was one of the few times you and him had the luck to meet in the same place. He was usually sticking with Atlas, scaping from Mitzi's antics or sticking around Viktor, he wasn't one to get near other people unless strictly necessary. Although... you were an exception. You were in Lackadisy before he got there and even if you never really formed a relationship as friends, you wouldn't describe him as just an acquaintance or stranger either... But you weren't the first person he would likely decide to spend his time with. The reason he was here with you? Atlas was out of city with Viktor for bussines for a few days, so his job for the next 5 days was to stay in the Speakeasy keeping an eye and making sure cats didn't made trouble with you because two cats are better than one, right?

It was just the two of you, just waiting for the speakeasy to crowd up. The ambience was a bit awkward since he wasn't making any effort to chat, he was engrossed in his own business over the stage looking at the piano in there.

"you like the piano?" You asked, in an effort to make the ambiance a bit more chill, to what he responded with a short sigh "It is an instrument with complex engineering that requires concentration and skillfulness." At your not impressed slightly rised eyebrow he rolled his emerald eyes "To shorten it and make it easier for your smooth brain to understand: yes —I do like the piano."

Mordecai's fingers start to press into the keys of the piano, one by one making a melody that you recognized instantly, your ear twitches in his direction as you mumble the lyrics

"You know the song?" He tilted his head down and looked up at you, like not believing you would know the song.

"Yeah, me and my shadow, by Frank Sinatra, right?"

He scoffed and looked you up and down with a twitch of his lip into a little grim "That's an underthought erroneous answer..." "Should have expected it from you." Mordecai keeps playing with a bit of smugness now "It's name is not even that. And it's play by Al Jolson, from the show Big Boy."
