Cedric kept his gaze steady. The trap was set. The bait, an enchantment: a patch of ground spelled with the sound of a crying child, a trap set around it, runes hidden by foliage that would easily trap the creature he’d tracked here. Angel or not, it would be bound by his trap just as any other being he’d captured before this.

He stayed still, waiting in the dim evening light, hidden by another simple spell to keep the angel’s eyes off him till it was too late.

He watched as they descended, their wings glorious and full. A holy aura seemed to envelop them. They looked concerned at the sound of the crying child.

Cedric smiled, pleased with the outcome as he saw the angel land, seemingly perplexed at the child’s absence. The runes he’d laid flashed, shining with a reddish light, a circle appearing around the angel.

He stood, revealing himself.

“You’re going to want to make this easy,” he said, still smiling. “It’ll be better for both of us if you do.”
