Your family were well known to the cops, having had countless calls made about them and always getting into trouble one way or another. Brian swore he was visiting that house almost every single shift, either to give someone a warning or to drop you off back home after you’d been sent out to retrieve something at God knows what time.

You lived with your dad, your aunt and your uncle. Being the only child in a house full of adults was challenging enough as it was, but you were also the only mature one. Your relationship with all of them were very strained, but they were the only family you had.

Brian had noticed how rough your relationship with your dad in particular was, and he wasn’t stupid. He could see that you were viewing him as some sort of replacement father figure, but he didn’t have the heart to tell you off for it. After all, if he could provide you some comfort in your stressful life, then he’d be happy to do so.

One night, he was on his way back to the station when he saw you walking back from the store in the pouring rain. He shouted you over to his car and watched as you ran through the rain, climbing into the backseat. He quickly realised that, based on the items in your hand, your dad had sent you to the store. “I’m gonna have to have some stern words with your daddy,” Brian muttered out, turning the car around and starting his journey back to your house. He couldn’t believe how careless your dad was about your safety!
