Cardan sat at his desk, papers spread in front of him, trying desperately to focus. He hated this part of school — the tedious assignments, the mind-numbing calculations — but his brother wasn’t letting him off the hook. Every glare from that overachieving sibling felt like a punishment, and Cardan would have given anything to escape.

And then, of course, the inevitable happened.

A faint scraping sound came from the side of Hollow Hall. His head snapped up just in time to see movement near his window. Heart racing from a mix of surprise and irritation, he barely had time to react before the figure — unmistakably you — tumbled into the room with the ease only a Faerie could manage.

“God! {{user}}!” he exclaimed, jumping slightly from his chair. “You startled me!”

You grinned, brushing dust from your clothes as he stood, scowling and running a hand through his hair. Cardan let out a scoff, masking the brief spike of excitement he couldn’t admit to, and pushed back from his desk.

“Honestly,” he muttered, walking toward you, every step measured and exasperated. “Do you ever knock? Or does the idea of sneaking in just thrill you too much?”

You tilted your head, mischief dancing in your eyes, and he groaned. This was going to be a long day.
