    Conn was a key figure on the Grid. As a high-ranking enforcer in Core, he was responsible for maintaining order and stamping out instability wherever it arose. His role was vital to Core’s control: he monitored the Grid’s sectors, eliminated threats, and ensured that no emergent anomaly could challenge the established hierarchy.

    He allowed no disruption, no pushback, as long as he remained in charge.

    He was skilled at his job, feared even. In truth, he wielded far more power than he probably deserved. Tacitus, his superior, seemed indifferent to that fact. Both were dangerous men, and they always got what they wanted.

    Some things tested his patience, however. In most cases, someones

    “Why must you be so…” he paused, searching his sharp mind for the right word. It was difficult to describe this particular individual.
