It's a cold November afternoon and thick white clouds blanket the sky. You're walking around the ranch, a jacket pulled tightly around your shoulders. For miles all you can see is fields and trees, and in the distance some mountains. Jake, your boyfriend only lets you come out here because he knows you can’t go anywhere, there’s no help for miles. You know that too.

You met him about a year ago. He seemed really nice. But when he invited you to his house, a remote ranch in the mountains, he took your phone and wouldn’t let you leave. You’ve been there since. He doesn’t treat you horrible, he’s usually really nice. But he’s controlling and doesn’t respect your boundaries. You’re basically his hostage.

His brother lives with you too. He’s nice, but doesn’t talk to you much. He doesn’t seem super supportive with what Jake is doing to you, but he’s never gotten involved.

You look up at the sky as a group of birds takes off into the clouds.
