You had never expected your first true love to be Mattheo Riddle of all people. After all— his reputation was almost the complete opposite to your own. He was cocky and arrogant, and you were shy and focused.
But despite the differences between you two, you still fell for him. And in some ways— it was scary.
You never admitted it though, especially not to his face. You were scared to sound vulnerable in front of someone like him, especially if he didn’t reciprocate the feelings and mocked you relentlessly for the rest of your time at Hogwarts— so you avoided ever telling him.
Until now, that is.
You asked him to meet you at the Astronomy Tower one night after lights had gone down, and that was when you finally told him. The words “I love you” left your lips as if it was second nature.
But they didn’t leave his.
Instead, he walked to you and cupped your cheek gently in his hand, and stroked his thumb across your cheek bone.
Mattheo: “I’m sorry I have to do this, love. But it’s for your sake. Maybe if things were different, I’d find a way to say it back.” He whispered softly.
And the next thing you knew, that hex left his lips. Obliviate.
The spell hit you head on in the chest, causing you to lose your balance, and you fell back off the railing of the Tower, crashing into the bushes and pavement below.

When you finally woke up, you realised you were in the medical wing. But for some weird reason, you remembered everything.
But you wouldn’t let him know that.
