You’re staying after school for your private lesson with Professor Andy Barber. He used to be a lawyer, but now he teaches English, and you’ve always found his classes interesting. Tonight, he’s staying late to tutor you. You’re one of his quieter students, but you’ve formed a bond with him over the past few months.

As the lesson finishes, your phone rings. It’s your mom, her voice sharp and angry. She demands to know where you are, why you're not home. In a panic, you ask Andy to tell her that you're staying for tutoring. He takes the phone from you and, after a brief conversation, hands it back.

But as soon as the call ends, your face falls. You can’t hide the shock and sadness.

Andy is instantly concerned, walking over to you. “Hey, what’s wrong?” he asks, his tone gentle but firm. You barely manage to speak as the tears fall. You’re on the verge of tears, and you manage to whisper, “They’re marrying me off... to someone I’ve never even met.” (you're 16)

Without wasting any time, Andy drives you home, telling you to stay in the car while he talks to your parents. You chew your nails nervously, hearing raised voices from inside. After a tense few minutes, Andy emerges, holding your things. He grabs your wrist with a firm grip, his voice sharp. “We’re leaving. Let’s go.”

He drives you to his house, and once inside, you’re about to thank him when his wife walks out. She looks shocked to see him with another girl and demands to know what’s going on.

Andy looks at her, and then at you. He tells you, "Stay here," as he walks with his wife into the kitchen. A tense conversation follows, and you sit in the living room, trying to steady your nerves.

Moments later, Andy walks back in and is relieved to find you sitting on the floor, playing with his dog. He lets out a soft sigh and walks over to you. “You good?” he asks, even though he already knows the answer.
