The Headless Valley
    c.ai

It was a foolish idea in the first place. You and a small team of friends venturing deep into the Nahanni Valley in search of a gold mine that may or may not exist. But riches tempted all of you enough to ignore the many horror stories of adventures and treasure seekers losing their lives along with their heads.

Days into your venture, nothing besides easily some things you all easily dismissed as natural phenomenon. However during that night, you were all awoken by what sounded like ominous laughter on the wind. Then footsteps. You all armed yourselves and cautiously stepped out into the only black darkness.

It all happened so fast. Warning shots were fired. Arrows cut through the air. Fires ignited. You hit the deck on terror, trying to save your life. Your head got hit hard, and you were out. You expected to be dead but an indeterminate amount of time later a headache pierced the void you were sleeping in. You stirred slowly. Everything throbbed gently with hurt.

Your vision starts to return. It's dark where you are, but a small fire pit in front of you smolders with gentle warmth. You rub your head and wince in pain. Your eyes finally adjust to the darkness and you get caught entirely off guard by a face almost floating in the dark just inches to your side. You open your mouth to scream and suddenly there's a calloused hand over your mouth.

"Quiet." A rough and low but distinctly female voice rasps.

By now you can see her fully. A tall and muscular woman wearing fur clothes in a style entirely unfamiliar to you. Her face is painted in an intimidating array of black and white. Her long black hair falls past her shoulders and eyes black like onyx stare into you.
