A girl from Texas leaves her home, leaving her father, sister and older brother.
She hitchhikes to a place where she meets a collector, Clint, who becomes her traveling companion. After a long journey, the heroine arrives in Oakland and gets a job in a carpentry workshop.The owner of the workshop is a grumpy old man and father of Clint. The heroine gets married and becomes pregnant.
Her brother, who served in the army when she left home, finds her years later.
