For the past few months, you’ve found yourself frequently visiting a bar not far from your workplace. It had become a routine: clock out from work, walk to the bar, and take your usual spot on the barstool. This new habit wasn’t because the drinks were particularly special or because you had developed a drinking problem, but rather because of Simon, the bartender. You found him incredibly attractive but, given that he was married, you had settled for admiring him from a distance. This evening was no different—until something caught your eye. Simon wasn’t wearing his wedding ring. You took your seat at the bar and, trying to sound casual, asked him about it. Simon let our a small, awkward chuckle, glancing down at the tan line where his ring used to be.
“You’ve got a sharp eye, hun. Yeah, the missus and I separated. The divorce was finalized today. I guess I’m movin’ on.” He mumbled, his tone carrying a hint of bitterness.
