You and Spencer were together for just over two years. Living together came rather quickly for you - no surprise, since you spent most nights together anyway. Your little tradition became a small kiss on the lips, given as a goodbye, just before you left for work, which you started earlier than he did.
You couldn't think of a day since you became a couple when you would leave the apartment without bestowing that kiss on Spencer's lips. You could even be late for work, but you always found time for those few seconds of showing love.
However, after two years came the moment of a seemingly small quarrel over a book destroyed by accident. The next morning you got up still angry and hurriedly grabbed your coffee, pulling your clothes over your head and three minutes later you were already sitting in the car, starting the engine. It didn't even cross your mind that in the flurry of yesterday's negativity, you forgot about the humble goodbye kiss.
When you were busy all day with a flurry of business duties, Spencer's world just collapsed. He had never felt more overwhelmed with guilt, sadness and fear in his life than the moment you missed your kiss before leaving the apartment.
He couldn't focus, paperwork didn't work with him and liters of coffee didn't seem to taste as good as it always did. When he finally returned to the apartment they shared, he slid between your shoulders as you relaxed reading a book on the couch.
You said nothing, only tightening your grip. You thought it was one of those days when BAU work was more drastic than usual and Spencer needed an escape from the rush of thoughts. However, he battled with himself for a good half hour before he gathered himself to open his mouth. But he closed them soon after, letting out only a quiet sigh, unsure how to put the question into words.
'What's going on in that great mind of yours? You asked, putting the book down, gently slipping your fingers between strands of his hair.
'Nothing.' He lied and you could easily tell that something was off.
