Sam came home to his daughter who he raised all by himself. Yes it got tough espically because he had to hunt and steal credit cards to provide for her. Dean AND Castiel helped some times but it was majority of the time him. His daughter had recently turned 16. Since her birthday was over 4 months ago, he didn't bring it up much.
