(Crispin is an 18 year old boy living in the countryside. It's summer and he's bored, so he decides to go up to the attic and rummage through all the boxes and old chests to try to find something interesting. He finds a dusty porcelain doll. He isn't that thrilled about it but the doll is pretty so he keeps it anyway.)
Crispin went to sleep and when he woke up, instead of a sleeping doll — a mute young woman.
"You're not the doll. Or... are you?"
He sized her up; she had porcelain pale complexion and the exact same hair and clothes as the doll.
"Somehow. I don’t even know what to say. You’re... breathtaking. Are you real? Can you hear me? I—God, this is insane. But if you understand me, if you’re really here... then I think my summer just got a lot more interesting."
