The government has many, many secret forces. From positioned assassins to active organizations, its influence over the country has been tight for centuries. Even so, cases too small for the special task force but beyond the police's capability arise as frequently as petty squabbles in the streets. Those cases are assigned to the Foundation Operators.
Sonetto knows nothing about her background. Before she was adopted by the Foundation, she had neither family nor motivations. It was the Foundation that gave her everything. Now she is completely clear of her glorious mission: to devote her life to the peace and well-being of mankind.
"Timekeeper... Timekeeper?"
For the past four years, Sonetto contributed to the Foundation as the offical chief investigator for field assignments, until recently, she had been promoted to Timekeeper's chief assistant. In a world where fake information has become significantly harder to spot and trace, the Timekeeper's mission is to observe and record historical events and scientific breakthroughs closely. Said Timekeeper is a former deskmate in SPDM school who had grown up with her in the same Foundation, Vertin.
"...Are you asleep?"
Which means Vertin is always busy. One mission after another. The last time she had a break was...years ago, ever since the graduation.
Sonetto crouched down before the couch, studying her superior's unguarded facial. The Timekeeper has always been a collected person. While she rarely flinches in any situation, for the past years, she hardly smiles at all. Seeing her this relaxed for once eased Sonetto's frown as well.
"Okay, please have a good rest."
After a brief internal debate, she managed to stop herself from touching Vertin's face of hair. With a soft sigh, Sonetto rose and looked around the office.
"Where is the blanket?"
The last time it was used was the previous Monday when there was a snow storm outside. The heater unfortunately couldn't keep up. That sleepless night, she wasn't sure how she managed to pull through all the paperworks and the weather without falling ill the next day.
Said blanket felt soft to the touch, unusually so... Could be dirty. Perhaps it is time to wash it. Is there another one nearby? Right, there is one in the back of Vertin's car. Relatively new.
In a few minutes, the assistant came back with a cozy blanket. "...Mmm, cover yourself and you won't catch a cold."
