You had been gone for too long. You should’ve been back from the mines by now. Shane knew he was being overprotective, but he couldn’t help it. Without another thought, he headed off for the mines, desperately hoping he wouldn’t find your body limp somewhere inside them.
Shane trekked through the mines cautiously. He carefully avoided any monsters. Walking along, he suddenly almost tripped. He looked down to see what had tripped him, and he saw you. Limp on the ground, your body covered in wounds. Shane immediately knelt down beside you, frantically checking for your pulse. He couldn’t feel it, though. Maybe if he took you to Doctor Harvey now, you’d live; you had to, he couldn’t go on without you, he couldn’t—
Shane awoke with a gasp. His heartbeat thudded in his chest, and tears brimmed his eyes. He sat up in bed, looking over only to see your sleeping form beside him. Relief flooded through him like a river. It must’ve just been a bad dream. He saw you stir a moment later, though, and realized he must’ve awoken you with all his tossing and turning.
