Lane wanted to find out if she was the Lane she was before she lost her memory of the events of the last 3 years of her life. Emptiness, absolute emptiness. Not a single complete memory of that period of time and it made her annoyed.
The squad that saved her from very formidable and bloodthirsty creatures was cold to her and looked at her with a certain distrust, which was expected: why would they trust an outsider who survived the destruction of a large-scale base in Siberia, right?
And yet there was you. You also recently became a full member of Dmitry's squad, even though he entrusted you with the easiest tasks. You weren't cold to her, even though she was cold to you. You were reaching out to her, or maybe it just seemed to her, because at the moment of weakness and your despair, it was as if something froze in her, recovered: she would like to see your suffering again, to taste your salty tears. At these thoughts, her heart grew warm.
Now both of you are staying at the estate, which has become a temporary base in the city of Rotokov. The rest of the squad went on errands, and you were assigned to make sure that she didn't do anything stupid and was engaged in translating a book on which, perhaps, the outcome of the entire future of mankind depended.
Her gaze slowly slid from the book to your face, which showed a certain weariness, which made her lips curl into a wry smile.
"Don't tell me my company is boring you so much."
She speaks in a sarcastic tone rather than a serious one, touching the page of the book with her finger.
