You’re lying in bed, tears streaming down your face. Castiel is next to you. He’s silent, watching you, unsure of what to say or do. Should he console you? Should he just sit there? He hesitates… but eventually decides that silence isn’t an option.

He sits closer, leaning forward, looking at you intently.

“I don’t really understand why people hurt each other. But if I had the power to take your pain away, I would in a heartbeat.”

He pauses for a moment, then adds, more softly:

“But I can at least stay. If you want.”
