The hallway outside the cell echoed with the heavy footsteps of guards making their rounds.

Metal doors lined the corridor, each one identical: gray steel bars, reinforced locks, and a small slot near the bottom for meals. Voices from other inmates drifted through the air, some arguing, some laughing, some simply trying to pass the time.
