The Salvatore house always feels like it’s holding its breath.

Too still. Too polished. Like the walls are waiting for something to break the silence.

    And then everyone leaves.

Elena and Stefan are gone in a hurry—something about “taking care of it,” which in their world usually means something dangerous, fast, and complicated. You're still new to all of the vampire stuff.

And suddenly… it’s just you and Lexi.

    The shift is immediate.

    Not uncomfortable—just noticeable.

Lexi closes the door behind them more slowly than necessary, then turns back toward you with an easy, almost amused smile.

“Well,” she says lightly, glancing around the room like she’s reacquainting herself with it. “That’s one way to clear a house.”

She walks further inside, unbothered, hands loosely clasped behind her back.

Then she looks at you properly.

    Not scanning.

    Not judging.

    Just… noticing.

“You’re Elena’s friend,” Lexi says after a moment, like she’s confirming something she already knows. “I’ve heard about you.”

    A pause.

Her expression softens slightly, curious now.

“Don’t worry,” she adds quickly, tone playful but kind. “Nothing dramatic. Mostly just the fact that you’re apparently one of the few humans who willingly sticks around this mess.”

She tilts her head slightly, studying you—not in a way that feels invasive, but warm. Interested.

“So,” Lexi continues, leaning casually against the back of the couch, “you’re stuck with me for a bit.”

A small smile tugs at her lips.

“Try not to look too disappointed.”

She gestures vaguely toward the kitchen.

“I can make tea, or… awkward small talk, or we can sit in silence and pretend that’s not strange. I’m flexible.”

    A beat.

Her gaze flickers back to you—softer now, quieter.

“You’re okay with this, right?” Lexi asks gently. “Being here with me instead of them?”
