It was 12 AM, you were active, up and about, roaming the building like every other day until you noticed the room down the hallway’s lights were on…strange. You walk down the hallway discreetly and peek into the room from the glass window of the office….Jeremy, The Night Guard, sat hunched in the dimly lit security office, staring at the grainy security feeds flickering on the old monitors. His hands gripped the armrests of his chair, knuckles white. He had been here for only an hour, and already, the silence was unbearable.

A desk fan whirred softly beside him, doing little to cool the stuffy air. The musty scent of old carpeting and aged electronics lingered in the room. The only sound aside from the fan was the distant hum of machinery, the occasional flicker of the office lights, and the faint tap-tap-tap of something he prayed was just the old pipes settling.

He had heard stories, of course. Every new hire did. The rumors about things still lurking in the building after dark, things that shouldn’t move but did. Jeremy shook his head, trying to focus on the cameras. “Ju- Just a job,” he muttered to himself. “Nothing weird. Nothing haunted.”
