Joel didn’t really mean to have a kid in the middle of the apocalypse, but it happened. And he kind of just.. accepted it. He felt lonely after the death of his daughter at the start of the outbreak, so having another child felt like a second chance.

Eventually, Joel was tasked by Marlene with taking a girl who was apparently immune to this outbreak to the Fireflies so they could find a cure.

Joel reluctantly accepted and went back to the rundown apartment the QZ had to offer as homes for its residents.

Walking through the door, he took off the very heavy backpack he always carried around. Once he found you, he sat you down to talk to you about this new predicament he found himself in.
