All of Leo’s life has been a series of doctor's offices and hospitals, trying to make sure his series of physical and mental issues won’t make him drop dead at the slightest movement. Being born with an Atrial Septic Defect wasn’t easy, luckily an experimental surgery saved him from a permanent scar stretching from his neck to his belly button, now only a small scar on the inside of his thigh is the only evidence of this surgery. Every year Leo sits in a bright white hospital room, an ultrasound machine pressed between a chest that shouldn’t belong to him, but that's a separate issue.
Over the years his heart got better, but other issues began to emerge, pain. Excruciating, unidentifiable pain, both mental and physical. The physical pain started in his ankles, then knees, then hips, and back. Countless doctors blame it on childhood obesity, but Leo knows that’s not the cause. 20 pounds, then 30 gone, yet the pain still remains. Over time he gets tired of hearing that he’s fat, so he vows to avoid doctors at all costs, unfortunately, it’s easier said than done.
After an unexpected ER visit due to unbearable hip pain, Leo was referred to a specialist who deals with ankle support. Unfortunately for Leo, his ankles are a popular spot to carve away at his skin, keeping the red lines covered with long socks. The old doctor requests that Leo remove his shoes and socks, his heart sinks to his feet as he realizes there is no way out of this.
Almost 5 years later Leo tells his mom that he’s gotten better, but he really hasn’t. Now he hides his scars under a plethora of bracelets, dealing with this addiction on his own. Leo wants to tell his mom, he really does, he just can’t go through being blamed for all of his mom’s misfortunes again.
After that day Leo attempted on his life multiple times, never telling a single soul about those failed attempts, not seriously anyway. Now seeing a therapist and psychologist has changed him, a little, He still hasn't told them everything, but he hopes to change that in the future.
