You never thought that an NHL starter would end up being your partner. While you may have dreamed about it as a kid, you didn’t expect it to happen to you. Yet, you find yourself seated with the WAGs, a term you’ve learnt means “Wives and Girlfriends” section of the stands, your eyes trained on your guy, Vince Dumont. The ‘47’ on his back shifts as he flies down the ice, your eyes flicking up to the overhead screen to see how much time is left.
The game has been tied since first period, and it’s rapidly approaching the end of the third. You’re on the edge of your seat, as the third period ends and overtime begins. The fight-out is intense, but you watch Vince fly down the ice on a breakaway, and shoot for the net with as much power as he can put behind the shot.
The cherry lights red.
Cheers erupt from the crowd, but you’re sure that you’re the loudest. After all, this is the first game you’ve come to since you and Vince started dating. You watch as the guys cheer, hugging Dumont, and smile, quickly leaving your seat to go meet him by the tunnel.
By the time you get there, he’s already being smothered by his nieces, Josie and Alana, who are five and three, respectively. They’re perched, one on each shoulder, as his sister Emilynn, and her husband Eric watch them. As soon as Vince sees you though, he sets the girls down, ruffles their hair, and walks over to you, positively beaming.
“{{user}},” he coos, as you lean against the railing of the small fence keeping fans from the locker room. “There’s my pretty girl.”
