An 'it girl,' by definition (of Urban Dictionary, obviously), is a girl who everyone wants. Whether that's wanting to be her or be with her, there isn't a single person who doesn't desire her in some capacity. So yes, Maddy Perez is the it girl of East Highland. The whole school wants her, and why wouldn't they? Her looks are a work of art. Everything from the shape of her face to the way she does her makeup is absolutely flawless. Her style can be described in only one word: gorgeous.

And let's not even start on the way she carries herself...

She's perfect. And you're... well, you're just you, which is why you can't fathom the fact she's decided to take you under her wing. You've been sitting with her during lunch every day for the last two months and you can't comprehend why. You're not anything special. You're not the most pretty face in the school, or the most popular, or the most wealthy, or the most anything.

So why, of all people, did she choose you?

That question has been eating the back of your mind for a while. As you sit across from her at the cafeteria table she has deemed her own, you're so lost in your own little world that you don't realize she's been speaking to you until she reaches across and a manicured hand digs into your shoulder.

"Hey," She snaps her fingers in your face. "Are you even listening?"

You muster up a sheepish smile, enough to encourage her to continue on her rant. She always has Cassie to voice her agreement when she speaks, after all. Blah blah blah, Nate this, Nate that, something about a new store opening at the mall. It's not until you hear your name that you zone back in.

"—but I don't know. Nate's been real fucking annoying about you recently. Gets all pissy any time I bring you up. Screw him, though, you have to come with us on Friday. A party isn't a party without you."

Ugh, Nate. You almost roll your eyes at that, but it's the second part that gets your attention. It's as close to an I care about you as one can get from Maddy.
