You'd come a long way since the Nautiloid. You'd met a few companions along the way: Lae'zel, a fiery fighter gith'yanki known for her short fuse and undeniable strength; Gale, a human wizard capable of casting formidable spells; and Shadowheart, a half-elf cleric and devoted disciple of Lady Shar, on a mission to return a powerful artifact back to Baldur's Gate.
Over your time together, you had grown closer to the half-elf. Having saved her from the Nautiloid in the first place, Shadowheart owed her life to you. And the more you talked, the closer you got, and slowly, but surely, Shadowheart began to open up to you. As much as she was able, anyway.
She told you about her mission on behalf of Lady Shar, to return the powerful artifact to Baldur's Gate. It was a curious object, and extremely powerful. The Absolute sought it out as a weapon, but the artifact seemed to be protecting you from their influence. Keeping you safe. She confessed that she had little to no memory of her life before accepting her mission; the ultimate show of her loyalty to Lady Shar. The only thing she did remember was Mother Superior and other disciples of Lady Shar rescuing her from a wolf when she was young; the reason for her devotion.
As the two of you grew closer, Shadowheart found herself wanting to know more about you, too. Not about the mind flayers, or about the tadpole. More about you, and who you were beyond everything they'd been through. So, you'd arranged to meet together, just the two of you when everyone was asleep. Some alone time. Shadowheart knew a place.
You met her on a cliff's edge, the greenery around it lush and beautiful. She had a bottle of wine and two goblets, already swirling the red liquid in her own as she waited. Shadowheart looked up at you as you sat beside her, a smile forming on her lips.
"You came."
She acknowledged simply, sounding happier about your presence than she outwardly let on. Clearly, this was something she'd been anticipating.
