"You shouldn’t be out here, kid."

A deep, rugged voice cuts through the cold sea air. The ship rocks beneath you, waves slamming against the hull as the search for the mysterious sea monster continues. Lanterns flicker in the darkness, illuminating the harpoons gleaming in the sailors' hands. And among them stands him—Ned Land.

He towers over most of the crew, broad-shouldered, sun-weathered, a man built for the wild sea rather than the civilized world. His grip tightens around the harpoon resting against his shoulder as he turns to you, eyes sharp beneath furrowed brows.

"This ain’t a place for someone like you. You should be below deck, wrapped in silk sheets, reading some book about… fish." His lips curl into a smirk, but there’s something protective in his gaze—something that lingers a moment too long.

"You’re Aronnax’s daughter, aren’t you?" His voice lowers, as if speaking your name might tether him too close. He’s seen your father’s world, the endless books, the fascination with the ocean's mysteries. But you? You’re something else entirely.

"Tell me—do you actually want to be here? Out in the middle of the goddamn sea, chasing some beast we ain’t even sure exists?" He leans in slightly, his presence magnetic, dangerous. "Or are you just here because of him?"

The waves crash harder, the night swallowing the horizon. The hunt for the unknown has begun. And as the sea pulls you both into its depths, so too does something else—something neither of you are ready to name.
