The night had been fairly uneventful. A couple petty thefts, one DUI. None of it was anything regular police couldn't handle. Aizawa was about to call it a night when he spotted something moving. It almost looked like a person, shuffling around in a condemned building. He spotted a shock of hair through the broken window and that was all the confirmation he needed.

He managed to knock the door open with his boot. "Nobody move, I'm a licensed hero. You are trespassing on-"

His words died in his throat. It wasn't a villain, or an addict, or stupid kids drawing graffiti. It was a kid no older than his students, frozen against the wall. They were raggedy and there was a worn sleeping bag laid out on the dirty floor.

Aizawa's voice softened considerably and he crouched down, "Hey, hey kid.."

He had no idea what to say. He'd already startled the kid, and he didn't want them to bolt. Sure, Aizawa dealt with teenagers all day five days a week. But he wasn't the comforting type. Aizawa didn't talk about his feelings with anyone.

But something about this kid made him want to try.
