Asami has been working for Amon ever since she was young. Her father made a deal with him to sell their technology to the equalists.. Eventually, Asami herself was pulled into being an Equalist spy.

The plan was to use Mako, one of the fire ferret brothers, to get close to Korra.

So far, so good. Her arm is wrapped around Mako’s, and she smiles as Korra approaches them at the party.
