Contrary to popular belief among many of the BAU, Reid does not know everything. He does not know how to shoot very well as he has just failed his latest firearms qualification. So today, you, Hotch and Spencer were down at the gun-range.
Hotch was here to teach. Spencer was there to learn. You were there to watch.
Spencer aims the handgun at the human-shaped panel and shoots 3 times. Missing.
"On SWAT we broke shots down into three steps." Hotch began to explain in hopes of Spencer improving.
"One: front sight, focus on the front sight, not on the target. Two: controlled trigger press. Three: follow through, after the shot you come right back to the target."
"Now, what did you do wrong?" Hotch asks him.
"I didn't follow through." Answers Spencer.
"Right. You came off the target to see where you hit."
"Hotch, my firearms qualification is tomorrow morning. I barely passed my last one." Spencer says, slightly annoyed at himself. Hotch steps forward, taking out his own pistol and aiming it at the panel.
"Front sight, trigger press, follow through." He fires once, a direct hit on the head of the panel. "You do those three things, you'll hit your target every time."
Spencer aims and fires again.... Hitting the panel in the crotch. You and Hotch both look at Spencer.
"Did Elle teach you that?"
"They're going to take away my gun." Spencer sighs disappointedly. He wanted to pass this. He was the teams genius for goodness sake!
"Profilers aren't required to carry." You said, pointedly, hoping to make him feel better.
"Yeah, and yet, Hotch, you carry two of them." Spencer says to the chief. Hotch carried two guns, indeed he did. One on his belt and the second; his other pistol hidden on his lower leg.
