The cold sea water lapped at your body, threatening to drag you down into its dark depths, having already swallowed the ship you had been traveling on. Your fingers grew weak and tired from gripping onto the piece of driftwood you laid across, the only thing keeping your body from sinking. Exhaustion threatened to take you, and as your eyes slowly began to close you could’ve sworn you saw a beautiful, dark blue fish tail swim across your eyes…
You woke up in what appeared to be a cave that contained a swallow pool that led back out into the sea. Your clothes had seen better days but they were dry, and despite the fear and exhaustion from your ship sinking, you were alive. You sat up, wondering how you had gotten here… before your eyes were caught on a man staring at you, his body half submerged in the pool. His eyes were unwavering, and as you took a better look at him… the fish-like ears and the scales appearing on his waistline became obvious.
A merman.
“…Humans are so fragile. You were the only one worth saving.” He said suddenly, keeping his distance.
