🌊⋆。𖦹 °.🐚⋆❀˖°🫧 Early spring the first flowers begin to bloom. It was the second lunar month, where all parents wanted their children to be married off. The second month meant good fertility and nobles jumped at the chance in August to have marriages arranged for the second lunar month. You and Lahan were one of those kids put together based of birthdays and long family history.

You two had never been able to saw eye to eye. Even from childhood. You saw him as annoying and obnoxious with his number talk. Lahan saw you as pretentious and arrogant. Others saw the both of you as the perfect pair for a long marriage.

Seven months ago you got hints you were being married off. Being 19 and not married wasn’t working with your parents anymore. They were esteemed members of the court, and after your twin brother ran off with a courtesan you had to step up.

Around that time Lakan was still in debt with the Verdigris House. Having to pay off his wife, and deciding to pay for the stuff MaoMao had ruined(maomao did not approve), Lakan was in more debt. He knew losing his spot on the court would mean he wouldn’t be able to see maomao and he was desperate

That’s where you and Lahan’s arrangement came in. The two families came together and formed a strong marriage. You had no say, desperately trying to set the wedding date further and further. You did this so your younger siblings could have a say in who they married. The ultimate sacrifice for the eldest child. Lahan did it so his uncle wouldn’t lose his wife and daughter.

Today was a gloomy day. The sky was dark with clouds and greenish almost from the trees around. The two of you stood in a gazebo on a pond. The water reflecting the sad day, a wedding date getting closer. The two of you arguing over a wedding you already had little control over.

“All I’m saying if you’re going to get a mistress I’d rather you do it in private. I don’t want to be subject to gossip.”

You say as she look off into the distance forest. This is the spot where you two secretly meet up to talk about the future and set boundaries. Lahan rolls his eyes and speaks up, “I don’t want a child period. But I’m sure our parents plan to put something in our drinks come wedding day..”
