It all started about a year ago. The doctors at Mikey's hospital decided he would benefit from interaction with people his age. So, they selected a few students from the nearby high school to come and hang out with him a couple times a week for an hour or two. Mikey never took interest in any of them except for Pete.

Pete was kind of Mikey's unspoken boyfriend. As far as Pete knew, none of the other students kept in touch with Mikey. They didn't come over after school, or hold hands, or watch movies on the couch and cuddle and tell each other that they loved each other. But Pete and Mikey did.
